In one post to Techcrunch, Michael Arrington has sent the online world, well, atwitter, with his suggestion Google is in high-level, late-stage talks to acquire Twitter.
Neither party is commenting. Arrington has no obvious sources for his story, but he has set off alarm bells all over. If Techcrunch didn't have a relationship with Washington Post, it's unlikely any mainstream media would be touching the story.
Google, in my personal view, would be a good owner of Facebook, mainly because it strives to respect the relationship between user and media. I would worry about other proprietors trying to change Twitter en route to monetization. I think any change of Twitter would send people to another service that would sprout to fill the void.
This is in the stay-tuned category.
