Gartner has released a report on newspaper use of social media. Not surprisingly there is room to grow.
Gartner believes there are audience and revenue gains to be made through more effective social media use. To the point; Loyal brand consumers can become brand "stewards" and influence others.
The study found inadequate search engine optimization and file-sharing among newspaper Web properties.
It's a matter of not looking past the basics, the report adds.
"One of those basics is turning those who are fans of your product or service into your best and lowest-cost marketing channel. Even simple social media tools not only allow sharing and recommendations, but also provide a level of identity and reputation management to give others a snapshot of a content curator's credentials."
