Fitch Ratings has released a report indicating several U.S. newspaper groups are so cash-strapped that they could default and leave their cities without papers as soon as 2010. It identifies the Tribune and McClatchy chains as particularly vulnerable.
The U.S.
newspaper sector is acutely affected by both declining revenues and a larger economic downturn that will further affect advertising.
