George Curry of the Philadelphia Inquirer has a lament for the decline of the newspaper in a column today. He says he became a journalist to help the poor and worries that the decline of the paper will push that goal away.
John Gapper of Financial Times, meanwhile, says the decline of local will strengthen the larger, more nationally-oriented newspaper sites. But he says too many papers perform too many duplicative functions in the media space, and they should lose them.
