On Oct. 6 the New York Times will reduce the number of sections in the paper and provide an even larger focus on the Web. The New York Observer has been the most intrepid at keeping tabs on the Times' intentions in recent days. But the top editor of the paper, Bill Keller, has notified the newsroom of the change. The Metro and Sports sections are destined for marriage.
