When the New York Times acknowledges a trend, well, it's a fixture.
In Monday's Times (or Sunday's online Times, if you want to be specific) it points to the increased tendency of organizations to link out. To be fair, the Times has been linking out; it just hasn't written about it for the millions who could learn that it's linking out.
This must feel like a belated gift for the likes of Jeff Jarvis at Buzzmachine and Scott Karp at Publish2.0, the longtime (well, two years) advocates of putting the competitor's links on your own site.
All organizations I know are contending with this issue because, as the Times points out, it strikes at the heart of the chauvinism and competitives streak inside a company. We've started to do it, though.
