The American Journalism Review acknowledges the decline of the newspaper, but makes clear that journalists are not responsible for it. Factors well beyond the reach of the newsroom --- the decline of classified advertising, the deterioration of retail advertising, and the indebtedness of owners --- have more to do with what's ailing the paper. Readers remain, if in smaller numbers, but they're affluent and educated. And journalism itself isn't falling apart, even if newsrooms can pick up their games online.
