The media climate encourages new entrants, but when those so-called amateurs want to connect with the mainstream, they can hit the wall. Along has come Demotix.com, essentially a matchmaking site for the pro-am collaboration. It brokers a deal for content and creators keep about 70 per cent.
Demotix is a little gushy in its sense that amateurs will save journalism, but it seeks to fill a gap in such fields as international reporting. It is a little like such services as NowPublic.com, which has a large lead in cultivating citizen/networked/amateur content and moving it through the mainstream.
