The newspaper is in swifter decline than anyone might have expected, blogger Andrew Sullivan says, and he's not particularly gleeful. While some online evangelists celebrate the arrival of new media and the challenges of legacy media, Sullivan worries that the one-person blog is hardly a substitute for the reporter. He knows, too, that the economics of the online model are slow to emerge and that the transformation to a digital sphere is a nightmare for many news firms. His post, in the Sunday Times of London, tells people to savour the paper they're holding and hopes alternative business models arrive to sustain quality journalism.
