From Tony Joseph, the CEO of the Mindworks consultancy firm, comes an interesting presentation
this week to the World Association of Newspapers conference in India.
The aim: To understand the need for newspaper change. Joseph feels some 40 per cent of newsroom staff are attached to functions that are either of little use or declining value.
He suggests outsourcing as many of those functions as possible in order to use the staff to work with content creation. Core-reporting outsourcing isn't on, he says, but such functions as pagination and even copy editing are.
