An oasis in the challenges for North American and European papers is the strengthening German market. In short, Business Week concludes, it's this:
1. Embrace the Web.
2. Partner with a telecom.
3. Get into the mobile space.
4. Enjoy risk.
5. Love competition.
Rule three is a challenge in North America, but the other four are on the table.

I don't see 4 and 5 being followed much in North America, especially by your management. When wsa the last time Canwest really took a risk journalistically? And since your newspaper's articles never link to outside sources, you clearly aren't "loving competition".

We do link to outside sources at times (particularly video) and will do more of the same in the time ahead. These are small steps, but they'll develop.
Not sure what a journalistic "risk" would mean to you, but I think we share a lot of views, investigate proportionate to resources, and work at times outside of conventions considering our audience.
The important thing is transparency, partly why I'm doing the blog. And it means your comments ought to include an e-mail or an identifier. Pretty difficult to take comments seriously when people won't stand up and be counted.
