The American Press Institute convened a closed meeting this week of newspaper executives to review their challenges, share some ideas and plot the future. The meeting was criticized for not being transparent, but having been at enough of these over the years, you're not going to get executives to be candid if they're being streamed live.
The institute has today presented a reasonable fascimile of what was presented, with participants' names striken and only alluded to., but with a fair amount of understanding of information presented to the gathering.
The upshot: No crisis in audience, but in revenue. The next step: Another confab in six months.

It's not something everyone can do, and it's not necessarily the most business-like decision an organization can make, but it's a realization that others can do more with data creatively than you might and that it's worth it to serve as the information conduit.
